Ten members of the Coffs Community Gardens Association (CRCG) attended the soil workshop held on-site on the 16th of July. They were provided with a background to the theories of soil science and learned why it is important to take samples. The group then collected samples for lab analysis, and performed basic on-site tests, including pH, soil solution and soil structure.
Steve explained soil structures 101 and what type of soils you can find in different areas of one site.
Digging up different area of the site to identify the different zones and take samples for soil testing (testing for herbicide/pesticide residues as well as heavy metals contamination).
Obviously, we have some drainage issues...
